Thursday 10k, Friday 12k, Saturday 21k (free 1 mile kids race, 14 and under.) and Sunday 5k and awards ceremonies. Saturday also features a 5k walker, jogger and stroller event. The Thin Air Distance Festival is a four day staged running race, with it's location in majestic and beautiful South Lake Tahoe, will be an Incredible event that will be quickly heard around the world. Throughout the weekend a variety of activities take place on the Pope and Baldwin Estates—vintage car shows, wandering musicians and jugglers, a raffle, special sales of period appropriate items and sale of the annual Gatsby poster. The event is staffed by volunteers, many dressed in Gatsby era costumes. Sunday afternoon of each Gatsby Festival the Tahoe Heritage Foundation holds the annual Gatsby Tea. Volunteers decorate and host tea tables and serve Gatsby era sweets and savories. The highlight of the afternoon is the fashion show of vintage clothing; themes have ranged from “pack for a cruise” to “summer at the Lake” to “wedding trousseau.” Tickets are $35 each or $350 for a table of up to ten guests and are sold through the Tahoe Heritage Foundation office; the event generally sells out early. We are extremely excited to bring back violinist, Karen Briggs! Last year, her performance raised our audience to their feet for a 10-minute long standing ovation. Briggs has a natural ability to improvise in various styles of music, such as symphonic orchestra, Latin orquesta, R&B, gospel, jazz ensemble and even rap. Additional exposure to genres of Caribbean, Afro Latin, Pop and Middle Eastern musical idioms has allowed her to evolutionize her identifiable style. She is most noted for her live performance with contemporary instrumental keyboard composer, Yanni.

The 21st Annual Kokanee Salmon Festival will be held this year on October 2nd and 3rd from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the U.S. Forest Service Visitor Center at Taylor Creek, 3 miles north of the City of South Lake Tahoe on California Highway 89. The festival is a weekend of family activities celebrating the annual spawning run of the Kokanee Salmon up Taylor Creek and the golden colors of Fall. Come enjoy the special events, great food, and meet Sammy Salmon! This year's celebrations include a number of events and activities that have become associated with the Salmon Festival. Back this year will be the Salmon Feed, 5k, 10k, a children's run, children's activities, educational programs and booths, and streamside programs.
